Google is evolving to adapt to user behavior, says Steven Wyer, founder and CEO of Third Coast Interactive (3Ci). Recently, Steven Wyer discussed that Google had revealed a few subtle changes to ad layouts designed to make the search process more mobile-user oriented.

DIRTY HANDS

dirty-hands-SM Four men arrived carrying a paralyzed man on a mat. They couldn’t bring him to Jesus because of the crowd, so they dug a hole through the roof above his head. Then they lowered the man on his mat, right down in front of Jesus. Seeing their faith Jesus said to the paralyzed man, “My child, your sins are forgiven.” (Mark 2:3-5)

My phone rang several times yesterday, the conversations were somewhat the same. Hurt, depression, loneliness.  These are men, warriors, wild at heart men who follow the…

PULLING WEEDS

dandelion I pulled weeds this past weekend. I haven’t noticed many other neighbors involved with their piece of earth in this way, just me. I don’t believe that those around me have conspired to direct all of the seeds of these unwanted sprouts to my yard. Sometimes it just seems like I need to pull weeds out of my yard.

It is a lot easier to see that my neighbor Joe needs to tend to his yard, I can really see his weeds. I could tell him how to take them out of his yard and all of the benefits he would…

QUIET

flood When you walk into a hospital room there is an unconscious behavior that even kids learn at an early age. You are quiet. The quiet does not speed the healing process. It does not take away the trauma that was experienced at some point in the past. It is not caused by sterile white sheets or official looking people. I think it comes from some place deeper. It happens in movies where something bad happens. It happens on the other side of the world with indigenous tribes. It happens intuitively.

THE SAUNA | Part 2

saunaSM  Most mornings I see the same guys. We all have a rhythm to life that puts us at the YMCA in a certain window of time. There is a Persian man who has come for as long as I have. Hairy body, gold chains, owns a used car dealership. We have short talk some mornings.

“How’s business?” I ask this morning. "Okay," he says. “Well sometimes ‘okay’ is good enough…” Then a pause to sweat...

"I read today that fifty million people in the U.S. go hungry every night; imagine, that’s not good in this…

PORN

P1010344  You porn and now iPorn. Yep, that’s right, there is now an iPhone application for porn. This makes me wonder what’s next, since I carry a Blackberry. I’m now waiting for Blackporn, or how about the new Palm…Preporn? The concept of phone porn gives me pause. I suppose it opens up a world of possibilities for hiding and participating, as there’s no more need for the more obvious computer screen with its deadly cache.

Google has a monthly volume of over 100 million porn-related searches. I…

NINE POUNDS

P1010835  Stroopwaffles. You have probably never heard of them, I know. But they have been given to us over the last year as gifts from Amsterdam. Presented by my younger son, I have always welcomed them. Delivered to our home, I savored every last bite. A recent trip to Amsterdam put me in a much closer (and deadlier) proximity to these syrup waffles. Even the strong are sometimes tempted beyond their abilities to resist, and so it was with me.

There is nothing wrong with this round, sweet, caramel…

FOUR FLIGHTS

P1010835  We were recently privileged to attend my son’s wedding. While that seems like a fairly obvious statement, it is even more of a privilege because my wife and I and our daughters flew to Amsterdam where the marriage ceremony was held. A wedding, a new “daughter”, being a proud father, a trip to Europe and…staying with my son and new daughter-in-law's parents for a week...what a gift! Planted in the city center of this great canal city, every moment in Amsterdam was full of life, vibrant…

GARTH

Emily w-cake movie  Since I live in Nashville, I listen to country music. I've noticed over the last few years that I have migrated to Celtic folk music, acoustic remakes of rock standards and singer/songwriters. I think it is the story, the lyrics that I am drawn to. Country has great hooks. I can think of a dozen right off the top of my head. Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares...

Garth Brooks has made popular some really great hooks. One in particular was a title cut, Thank God For Unanswered Prayer. It…

LOOK ME IN THE EYE

Emily w-cake movie  I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth (a thinly veiled reference to Mr. Ed), and I want to speak with him face to face. There are alot of old sayings like these, all basically referring to the same thing; person to person honest communication. Do I still have this in business, with my older children, or with siblings? Not so much.

Electronic communication is great. It allows you to read this blog, but you don’t know what my intent is just by reading, do you? It works better if you know…

SQUEEZE

Emily w-cake movie  I gave blood last Sunday. Our church does an annual blood drive. My friend Kent attends GracePointe and is the area director who oversees donations for the Red Cross. You know they are serious when they show up with three bloodmobiles.

It’s cold and cramped and full in there. Happy people taking care of the bleeders, everyone part of a constant motion. I’m reclined at one of the stations and the phlebotomist is all business. She hands me a red rubber ball and tells me to squeeze. After my…
